This project was a complex extension and full refurbishment of a 1930s Abersoch period property that was previously a bed and breakfast.
A large 2 storey rear extension takes the place of a pre-existing single storey addition, to accommodate a new open plan kitchen and dining space with an additional master bedroom with en-suite above it.
The client wanted an interior that was bright and luxurious in feel and with a strong connection to the relatively modest size back garden. The new extension’s full height Crittal style steel windows and doors open onto a wrap-around veranda and new elevated terrace, which help give the illusion of it being a much larger space.
The original part of the house was also fully refurbished, and in the process to try and restore some of its original features which had been lost. Another important requirement was to upgrade the energy efficiency of the existing building shell so that it could work with a hybrid system of renewables and a new gas boiler, along with solar panels installed on a new garden room structure also added onto the garage.
We have tried to combine modern elements with the original character of the house in such a way that the modernisation is hard to spot and relatively seamless.
